There is no such thing as the perfect job. There’s a lot of advice floating around about waiting until you find THE job. That’s fine - if you’re independently wealthy, ready to beef up your education, and are well connected. For the rest of us who have to make money to live, aren’t going back to get a doctorate, and who have to meet people through traditional networking means… that’s garbage advice. I’ve been in 8 different postitions since I left education. Some I contracted for, one I was recruited for, one I left for, and some I was promoted into. Each of those has been a new lens to view my career journey through. I’m always asking myself things like: - “Is this something I’m interested in?” - “What are the things about this position I’m not great at or don’t enjoy?” - “How can preserve what I do like and have an impact in the education space in my next role?” There is zero shame in taking a position because it pays the bills. There is zero shame in taking a position and realizing it’s not the right fit. There is zero shame in taking a position as a strategy move. Instead of looking for perfect, let’s start embracing looking for something better. #transitioningteachers #careeradvice

Since earning my Master's in Nonprofit Management on 05/06/2023 from Johnson & Wales University, I have continued to learn and unlearn. My graduation cap included the following quote from Larry Niven: "Half of wisdom is learning what to unlearn." I can't live without doing either. I have learned new ways to network and revise my resume. I have learned more ASL. I have learned a lot about DEI, thanks to many practitioners such as Lily Zheng sharing their ideas. Most recently, I have unlearned using the messy organization system of Google Sheets and paper notebooks to track my job search. While speaking with Marivia Ursini from Merit America this past Friday, they shared an incredible tool with me. I've since shared it with other friends who are #LookingForOpportunities as I'm not one to gatekeep anything. So, what is it? The resource is Huntr (huntr.co). They describe it on their website by saying "It's like a CRM for your job search" and they couldn't be more spot on! This tool has allowed me to organize all of the roles I've applied for -- for many months. I've created a list of roles I intend to apply to, with application deadline reminders, role descriptions, and notes about who I've contacted at the organization. And somehow there are still so many awesome benefits to learn while using Huntr. I'm excited to keep learning and unlearning with this tool. Let's #GetToWork! #MissionDriven #ReadyToWork #ApplicationProcess #JobSearchTips #Learning #Unlearning #NetworkingSuccess #FGLI #SeekingEmployment #AvailableImmediately #JWU #MastersDegree #LarryNiven #QuoteOfTheDay #SundayMotivation PS Shout out to Colby Campbell for this incredible photo and all the others. ❤️
